Surowiec, Helen. August 12, 2017. Age 98 of Dearborn. Beloved wife of the late Albert who passed away July 7, 2005 after 66 years of marriage. Loving mother of Alberta, Stanley (Carmela) and Fr. Jude Surowiec, ofm conv. Dearest grandmother of Andrew (Maria), Matthew (Stephanie), Krista (Montgomery), Shambleau and Rebecca Tibus. Loving great-grandmother of Caroline, Andrew, Isabela, Madeleine, Stanley, Brandon, Michelle, Carmelo, Benjamin and Becket. Helen is survived by her sister-in-laws Lillian and Marie Wiktor, and God daughters Mary and Carol Wiktor. She was preceded in death by her parents Stanley & Christine (Flak) Wiktor and her brothers Walter, William and Fr. Titus Wiktor, ofm conv. Helen will be deeply missed by nieces, nephews, family and friends. Helen was born August 5, 1919 in Detroit, Michigan. She died peacefully having demonstrated remarkable grace in the face of a long term illness, but never let it destroy her spirit or dampen her joy in living. She had been a loving wife, mother and devoted grand/great grandmother who will be remembered and celebrated for her kindness and generosity. A deeply prayerful person, she put God and family before everything. Never asking for anything, she was the first to give generously to others. Helen understood what a treasure a true friend is and found hers in Sandy Mattucci with whom she enjoyed heart to heart conversations, laughter, tears, prayerful moments and numerous adventures. Their friendship was dear to Helen’s heart and she cherished the times they shared. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the caring administrators and staff persons at Beaumont Assisted Living and Skilled Nursing Center most especially Dolores Kuhne, Lori Wydryck, Anne Normand, Sharita Lewis, Inger Davis, Sam Nazzal, Donna Wainwright, Sue Little, Joyce Bowman, Amal Alzindani, Father Luke Iwuji, Micky Golden Moore, Jan Maki, Elaine Gasser and Mr. T for their love and kindness to Helen during her residency in both facilities over the past 8 years. Diana Nagy was the most exceptional care-giver who, on a daily basis, went beyond anyone’s expectations and made Helen’s day more comfortable and peace-filled. In addition, appreciation is offered to Dr. Jacqueline Mohs and to the trained and skilled personnel at Beaumont Hospice for their compassionate care. Helen was an incredible gardener who nurtured beautiful roses in her yard. For many years she cultivated a large vegetable garden. She had a green thumb and everything flourished under her care. She was a great baker and cook preparing delicious Polish dishes with great delight. Where there was song or dance, Helen could be found. In addition, she was an avid reader and would have a novel or magazine in hand. Anyone who knew her, knew that she was an independent spirit with a soft heart and an infectious personality. She was blessed with beautiful twinkling blue eyes, and expanding smile and a heart of gold. She loved to share stories about people whom she met at Friendly Bar and Tiger Stadium where she worked for many years. She was also a long time employee of Wayne County Friend of the Court and a past member of Our Lady Queen of Angels Mothers’ Guild.
